Apprentice School


The mission of the Apprentice School is to contribute to the profitability and growth of Northrop Grumman Newport News (NGNN) by recruiting, training and developing men and women for careers in shipbuilding. The School seeks to provide the Company with a continuous supply of individuals who possess not only the skills, knowledge, and pride of workmanship, but also the educational foundation and personal qualities which they will require to fully meet the challenges of a shipbuilding career.The Apprentice School carries out this mission by providing an apprentice program consisting of craft training, related academic instruction, and extracurricular activities (including student government and athletics) that contribute positively and synergistically to the development of craftsmanship, scholarship, and leadership.

commonwealth of Virginia, originating from the oldest. Today, CNU combines a
traditional liberal arts and sciences curriculum with contemporary teaching ideologies


College of William & Mary


Founded in 1693, William and Mary is the second oldest educational institution in the U.S. Although Harvard began operation first, William and Mary's antecedents actually predate those of the Massachusetts institution. The College is the first U.S. institution to have a Royal Charter.William and Mary ranks first among American public universities in terms of commitment to undergraduate teaching, according to U.S. News and World Report. It is also the highest ranked small public university in the country. Four Presidents of the United States benefited from educational programs offered by the College: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe and John Tyler.

Hampton University

Accountability continues to be a key ingredient in one of the building blocks of the Harvey model for a successful administration. The desired results must be achieved. Hence, the performances needed to achieve these results are of utmost importance.To this end, the university must have in place monitoring strategies and mechanisms to assess and evaluate performances of its functional areas and operations on a continuing basis. With these activities taking place, the success levels of the university’s components and thus the university can be determined.With this managing principle in mind, President Harvey established the unit of Operations Analysis and Research at the university. A primary function of this unit is the assessment and evaluation of the functional areas and operations at the university. Another key ingredient for successful administration is the efficiency and effectiveness of this office in performing its duties. To this end OAR seeks to find and utilize the most sophisticated and reliable methods and technology to retrieve, store, analyze, interpret and report its findings.

Norfolk State University


Norfolk State University is an urban institution located in the heart of a metropolitan area with an enrollment of nearly 8,000 and a student-teacher ratio of 16:1. The residence halls are located on the east and west sides of campus. Programs are designed to meet the needs of the residents and to make the residence halls "learning centers." Programs are planned in areas of recreation, personal and social growth and development, and academic support. University housing is not available to married or graduate students.Rooms are furnished with beds, closets, desks, and chairs. Due to the high demand for University housing, a deposit and housing application are due prior to May 1 for the fall semester and November 30 for the spring semester.

Old Dominion University

Located in historic Norfolk, Va., the 188 acres of the Old Dominion University campus stretch from the Elizabeth River to the Lafayette River. Although situated in a metropolitan setting, the University offers a small-college look and feel, with tree-lined walkways, a mix of old and new buildings, and colorful gardens and ponds. Founded in 1930 as a division of the College of William and Mary, Old Dominion has grown into its own over the years and is now one of only 101 public universities with a Carnegie/Doctoral Research-Extensive distinction.


Thomas Nelson Community College


Thomas Nelson Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York. The college operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and with the guidance of the Thomas Nelson Community College Board. The administration of the college is directly responsible to the chancellor of the Virginia Community College System. The college is financed primarily by state funds, supplemented by contributions from the participating localities and the federal government.
